About Marilyn G. Lunnon

Author, educator, mentor — and lifelong advocate for every child's promise and purpose.

Beginnings

My Story

I have spent more than 54 years in classrooms, walking beside students from many cultures, languages, and backgrounds. My teaching journey began as an English teacher, where I discovered how deeply I loved helping young people find their voice through reading and writing.

Later, I transitioned into ESL instruction, where I worked with newcomers and multilingual learners who were building confidence in a new language. Over the years, I also taught reading intervention and supported students who needed extra encouragement, patience, and steady guidance.

No matter the subject, my classroom was always built on the same foundation: every child deserves to be seen, valued, and believed in.

Career

A Life in Education

Throughout my career, I taught students from many countries and cultures. I learned their stories, celebrated their progress, and watched them grow into confident learners. My greatest joy came from helping students who felt unsure of themselves — the ones who needed someone to say, "You can do this."

My work was never about programs or labels. It was about relationships, trust, and the belief that every child carries promise and purpose.

The Memoir

Why I Wrote My Memoir

My memoir, I Have a Dream for Every Boy & Girl, grew out of decades of moments that shaped me — moments of challenge, joy, heartbreak, and transformation. I wrote this book to honor the children who taught me as much as I taught them, and to share the lessons that guided my life in education.

As the years went on, I realized something deeper: my ESL classroom was more than a place of learning — it became a living metaphor for what is possible when people from different backgrounds choose to understand one another. In a time when our nation often feels divided, I saw every day how students who spoke different languages, practiced different traditions, and came from different worlds could become a community simply by spending time together, listening, and learning each other's stories.

“What happened in that classroom wasn't just education. It was unity. It was healing. It was hope.”

I wrote this memoir because I believe those same principles — patience, curiosity, compassion, and connection — can help all of us today. My students showed me what it looks like when people choose to see one another fully, and I wanted to share that gift with others.
